What is a PicoWay treatment?

The PicoWay laser is FDA-cleared to remove tattoos, acne scars, wrinkles, dark spots, and pigmentation, such as birthmarks and melasma. It’s designed to be effective on a wide variety of tattoo types and colors (including those that might not have responded to the previous removal methods), and the settings can be customized to work on any skin tone, making it one of the best choices for tattoo removal.

PicoWay has three wavelengths, each removing a different range of color, which gives you safer, more accurate tattoo removal with minimal side effects.

What separates PicoWay from other methods of tattoo removal is that this laser uses photoacoustic energy, as opposed to thermal energy. So this laser shatters the tattoo particles into much smaller fragments. Depending on the tattoo, you’ll need a series of treatments four to five sessions—in order to see optimal results, with 8 weeks between each session for healing.

Studies show that smoking makes laser tattoo removal nearly 70% less successful. So by quitting smoking, you’ll have fewer appointments, which means less pain and expense.

Each PicoWay session will probably last about 10 minutes, but your treatment time and the number of visits you need will depend on your tattoo’s size and placement, as well as the color of the tattoo and your skin tone. It’s usually not possible for your provider to tell in advance how many sessions you’ll need to completely remove a tattoo.
